Happy 2021 guys! After the year that we have had, I can’t be the only one who’s happy to see the end of 2020. I’m sure we have all suffered some form of loss; whether that be a job, financial freedom or someone dear to us. I can safely say that for me 2020 was a really strange year. Routines went out the window, I spent more time than normal with my family as I was working from home and I literally was with my husband 24/7 as we had no room to have separate desks.
It has been a wacky year, but here are some lessons I will carry into 2021 with me:
- Make time for yourself.
In a time where people have been at home, with no social interaction, you may feel obliged to spend that time with your family. It goes without saying that of course, you should spend time with them, but try your best to take some time out to spend by yourself. Make it work around your current schedule. If you work a 9-5 job then spend some evenings by yourself. If you have kids then see if you can squeeze some time out while they’re sleeping. You can use this time to either do something you are passionate about or just simple self-care. Even if it’s just 20 minutes reading a book, writing, putting on a facemask or taking a walk, me-time is absolutely, a hundred percent necessary, just as necessary as eating, breathing, sleeping. Do not feel guilty for taking care of yourself and loving yourself.
- Do not take on too much in one go.
Our productivity this year may have fallen to the wayside which, in turn, can make us feel like we haven’t achieved anything all year. If there was ever a time for refection, this is it. Look back on 2020 and celebrate your achievements, especially the little wins and carry over the things you wanted to acomplish in 2020 but didn’t, into 2021. Do not make the mistake of letting the failures of 2020, dictate the targets you set yourself for 2021. In other words, don’t overwork yourself this year to make up for your unproductive last year.
- Enjoy the little things.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again. – Buddha
If you read this far, thank you. I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.
